Born in Hala Haveli in 1102 AH (1689 CE), Shah Latif wandered through the deserts, hills, and coastal regions of Sindh, Balochistan, and Lasbela with wandering ascetics before making his retreat on a sand dune (Bhit) near Hala. He invented the 5-stringed musical instrument "Danburo" and developed 30 distinct musical Surs (melodic modes) for singing praises of the Divine.
