Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex

Born in Bukhara in 810 CE (194 AH), Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari memorized tens of thousands of hadiths in his youth. He traveled for sixteen years across the Hijaz, Egypt, Syria, Basra, Kufa, and Baghdad, scrutinizing over 600,000 narrations to author Al-Jami’ al-Sahih. Refusing to compromise scholarly independence for political patronage, he spent his final days in the village of Hartang near Samarkand, where he passed away on the eve of Eid al-Fitr 256 AH. In 1998, a monumental memorial complex was built on the 1225th anniversary of his birth.
