Sheikh Nooruddin Wali (1377–1438 CE) was born in Kaimoh, Kashmir. Through his profound Kashmiri poetry (Shruks), he translated high Islamic metaphysical truths into the local tongue, bridging Hindu and Muslim communities and leading to the mass spiritual conversion of Kashmir to Islam through compassion. Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin (Budshah) was chief mourner at his funeral in 1438 and commissioned the royal wooden shrine at Charar-e-Sharief.
